Report of " 60th anniversary of Bharatanaatya Arangetram of Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan " - 2020.

Bharatanaatya Arangetram of Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan"

“The Mylapore Trio” - Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation Commemorated the 60th year Bharathanaatyam Arangetram from the Legends “Kalaimamani” Late. Smt. Krishnaveni Lakshmanan and “Padma Bhushan” Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan on Monday, 13th January, 2020 at Rathnagirishwarar Temple, Besant Nagar, Chennai.

History repeated once again after a decade like an astronomical phenomenon. The Foundation created history by providing the platform “Visesha Arangam” for the historical event and an umbrella for all Artists to come under one Banner to celebrate the once in a decade cultural extravaganza.

 Smt. Shanta performed along with Kum. Mayura and Kum. Hamsa – The Grand Daughters of Late. Smt. Krishnaveni Lakshmanan. At the auspicious evening of Shankatahara Chaturthi, they offered “Naatya Nivedhanam” at the temple with much devotion and dedication.

At the outset “The Trio” & Sugathan welcomed the gathering and explained the historical importance of the event and traced their association with Kalakshetra, Krishnaveni and Dhananjayans since 4 decades. Smt. Shanta and the Twin Grand Daughters of Smt. Krishnaveni performed for more than an hour. The Varnam and the Thillana was the same, which was performed during the legendary Duo’s Arangetram on Wednesday, 13th January 1960 at Kalakshetra. 

 At the end the Mylapore Trio and Sugathan presented “Swarna Gopura Kalasam” along with Ganga Sombu and Goddess Annapurani icon to Smt. Shanta Dhananjayan in appreciation of her remarkable achievements if the field of Bharatanaatyam for over 6 decades. A specially designed Memento by Surendranath with a Tanjore style Painting of “Mayuram” and “Hamsam” were presented to Kum. Mayura and Kum. Hamsa respectively along with Ganga Sombu and Goddess Annapurani icon.

The Temple hall was crowed with galaxy of Kalakshetrians young and old, Dancers, Musicians, Gurus and their Disciples with full of Cultural Fragrance.

A special poster was made by the Trio with Nostalgic photos of the duo during their Arangetram - 1960, held on the same date in the august presence of the Great Legend Smt. Rukmini Devi Arundale and Musical Legend Shri. Sambamurthy, 40th in which both  Krishnaveni and Shanta performed togather and in the 50th Anniversary Krishnaveni’s daughter Gayatri danced with Shanta. Incidentally the Mylapore Trio had hosted the 50thArangetram Anniversary on the same Date and Venue in 2010. Smt. Shanta scripted history by performing with Three generations in Thirty years.

It was a very historic, colourful and a divine evening for one and all.
