 (12th Year “Mylapore” Festival of Tamizh Tradition & Culture for Children & Youth)

Kindly read the Rules & Regulations of the Event furnished below
carefully & thoroughly and abide by the same.
Those who do not adhere to the Norms of the Event will not be entertained.

Registration at Foundation Premises

Registrations from 8th March to 14th April, 2014. (No Online Registration)
Time: 10.00am to 12.00noon
Parents & Participants must come in person to Register, adhering to *Traditional Attire - Dress Code of the Foundation mentioned below.
Representatives / Group / Bulk Registrations will not be accepted.

A Registration Fee of Rs. 100/- is charged for each Competition & Participatory Event, Plus Rs. 50/- towards 1 Photo (Mandatory) for each Participant taken by the Foundation during Prize Distribution Function. Photograph will be posted on our Blog / Facebook. Hard Copy will not be given. Photography / Videography – Camera / Handycam by the Parents & Rasikas are strictly prohibited inside the Auditorium, during Competitions & Valedictory Function.

Once Registered for a Competition, it will not be changed / altered / cancelled.

Competition Dates: 19th, 20th & 26th, 27th April, 2014. (subject to change due to unavoidable circumstances)
Prize Distribution Function: 4th May, 2014.
*TRADITIONAL ATTIRE (Dress Code of the Foundation mentioned below) is compulsory
for all Participants, Parents, Children & *Rasikas during Registration, Competitions and
Prize Distribution Function.

Sub. Junior: – Sec. A – UKG, I Std. & Sec. B – II, III Std.
Junior: – Sec. A – IV, V Std. & Sec. B – VI, VII Std.
Senior: – Sec. A – VIII, IX Std. & Sec. B – X to UG.

The nature of the Festival is of Two Categories – Competition & Participation.

Kids Section – 6 Competitions.
*Competitions cannot be witnessed by the Parents & *Rasikas

Bhakthi Paadal – Max. 3mins. (Tamizh Song only)
Malar Kuvalai (Flower Vase) – Max. 30mins. Bring Vase (any size/shape/material) & Real Flowers,
Leaves, Twigs. Only one Flower Vase to be done within the given time. No pre-fabrication.
Oviyam – Max. 30mins. (Only Colouring) Bring Colour Pencils / Crayons to fill Colours in an
Outline Drawing given by us.
Kaivinai Porul – Max. 45mins. Topic given below. Must bring their own Materials.
Only 1 item must be made within the given time. No pre-fabricated materials allowed.
Kadhaiyum Karuthum (Tamizh) – Max. 3mins. Topic given below.
Maaruvedam Fancy Dress (Tamizh) – Max. 2mins. Topic given below. Props allowed, No Backdrops.

All Levels  – 18 Competitions.

Category 1 – Performing Arts:-

Bharatanatyam – Max. 3mins. (Only Tamizh Song)
(For Bharatanatyam alone, there will be a Selection Test at the time of Registration. Must bring CD
(min. 2 Items). Costume - Dance School Uniform, from 8th Std. Kutta Pudavai Dance Saree mandatory)
Naattupura Nadanam – Max. 3mins. (Kurathi, Kummi, Karagam, Kaavadi, Paambhu, Mayil…)
(Only Traditional Tamizh Folk Dances & Songs) 
(For Naattupura Nadanam, there is No Selection Test)
For both the Dance Competitions, participant must bring only 1 Song in 1 Audio CD / Pen drive for the performance. Multiple Tracks CD will not be entertained. Video DVD / VCD not allowed.
Audio system will be provided.
Dance Costume, Salangai and Make-up mandatory.
Keerthanai – Max. 3mins. Only Tamizh Keerthanai / Any Composer. Only 1 song of your choice.
Naattupura Paadal – Max. 3mins. (Kuravanji, Kummi, Ammanai, Kaavadi Chinndu, Thaalaattu…)
(Only 1 song of your choice)
Bharatiyar Paadal – Max. 3mins. (Only 1 song of your choice)
Thevaaram – Max. 3mins. (Only 1 song of your choice)
Thirupugazh – Max. 3mins. (Only 1 song of your choice)
Participants must bring their own Sruti Box with Batteries for all Vocal Music Competitions.
Vaadhya Isai – Max. 3mins. (Any Instrument / Only 1 Tamizh Song) Bring Keyboard with Batteries.

Category 2 – Fine Arts:-
Neermel Poo Kolam (Floating Flower Kolam) – Max. 1Hr. Bring Water, Real Flowers, Leaves, Twigs,
Plate / Bowl circumference 1ft x 1ft Round Shape only. Terracotta / Metal or any other material.
Only 1 item can be made within the given time.
Malar Kuvalai (Flower Vase) – Max. 45mins. Bring Vase (any size / shape / material), Real Flower,
Leaves, Twigs. Only one Flower Vase to be done within the given time. No pre-fabrication.
Kaai Kani Sirpam (Vegetable & Fruit Carving) – Max. 1Hr. Bring Vegetables, Fruits and
other relevant materials. Minimum 1 item in each must be made within the given time.
No pre-fabricated materials allowed.
Oviyam – Max. 1½ Hrs. Topic given below. Chart alone will be provided by us.
(Chart Size 11” x 14”). Bring all other Materials.
Can use Colour Pencils / Crayons / Water / Poster Colours / Oil Pastel / Sketch Pens.
Kaivinai Porul – Max. 1½ Hrs. Topic given below. Must bring their own Materials.

Category 3 – Academic Arts:-
Kaiyezhuthu Potti (Tamizh) – Max. 30mins. Content & Paper will be provided. Bring Pad, Pencil/Pen.
Katturai Potti (Tamizh) – Max. 1Hr. Topic given below. Min. 250 words. Paper alone will be provided.
Bring Pad, Pencil, Pen etc.
Petchu Potti (Tamizh) – Max. 3mins. Topic given below. No Props.
Kadhaiyum Karuthum (Tamizh) – Max. 3mins. Topic given below. No Props.
Maaruvedam (Fancy Dress) (Tamizh) – Max. 2mins. Topic given below. Props allowed, No Backdrops.

Common Topic:– “Naanmaada Koodal” for the Competitions – Oviyam, Kaivinai Porul, Katturai Potti, Petchu Potti, Kadhaiyum Karuthum, Maaruvedam.

Participatory Event

Tamizh Maalai – Max. 3mins. (Kids / Sub.Junior / Junior - an exposure to either talk / sing / enact
in Tamizh).

Special Prize* - Eligibility:-
Only First, Second & Third Prizes will be taken into account for Special Prize Category.
Consolation Prize will not be considered.

Kids Section:-
Talent Prize – Enroll in All 6 Competitions & Win in minimum 4.
Multi Talent / All Rounder / Out Standing Prizes – Not Applicable.

All Levels:-
Talent Prize – Enroll in min. 6 Competitions from any of the Three Categories & Win in minimum 3.
Multi Talent Prize – Enroll in min. 9 Competitions with min. 3 under each Category &
Win in minimum 6. (min. 2 from each Category).
All Rounder Prize – Enroll in min. 12 Competitions with min. 4 under each Category &
Win in minimum 9. (min. 3 from each Category).
Outstanding Prize – Enroll in All Competitions & Win in All Competitions. (Conditions apply*).

A Gold-Coated Rolling Trophy* “PORTTRAMARAI” in the name of “Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan”,
is awarded to the institution for large participation. (above 100 Registrations). Conditions apply*

The Children who have participated in the 12th Year “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha”- 2014
are alone eligible to receive their Participation Certificate / Medals / Prizes.
During the Prize Distribution, only the Participant must come in person to receive it on Stage.
There will be a final call out for the Absentees of 4th May, 2014 to receive it on a later date.
Parents / Representatives cannot receive it on both the occasions.
