Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha - 11th year. Memorable Moments...


The “Mylapore Trio” of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation celebrated the Eleventh year “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha” – An Exclusive Children’s Tamil Festival in which 300 children with more than 1100 participation took part in 18 competitions and won prizes. Competitions were conducted under Three Categories viz. Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Academic Arts based on Tamil Language, Culture and Tradition. The Valedictory Function of “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha” along with 87th “Kala Poshakam” was held on Sunday, 28th April 2013, at Sri Dakshinamurthy Auditorium, Mylapore, Chennai.

The Chief Guest was Kalaimamani Thiru. V. Ramjee, Makkal Kural. He was overwhelmed and thrilled to be a part of this children’s festival and lauded the efforts of the Trio & the Foundation in perpetuating our Tradition & Culture, especially in Mylapore. He recalled his long cherished association with the Trio and said he has been an ardent admirer of the Great Grand Golu put up by the Trio at their house and in famous Temples. He praised the sincere efforts of the Trio in doing multifarious cultural activities in its varied dimensions despite their professional pre occupations and without sponsorship. He appreciated the performers of the evening and wished them all the best.

The evening started with cultural programme by children, who performed Karagam, Kavadi, Bharatanatyam, Mullaipaari Kummi, Ayyanar Aattam, Thamizh Paadalgal, Petchu Thiran, Maaruvedam etc.

The Chief Guest distributed Certificates and Medals to all the Participants apart from First, Second, Third and Consolation Prizes to the Winners. He also gave away the Specialprizes viz., Talent and Multi Talent Prizes to 21 children. Kum. Sree Rudra of 1st standard who belongs to the Sub.Junior category participated in all the 18 competitions and won the maximum number of prizes was recognized with a memento. An array of children and youth decked up in gorgeous traditional paavadais, dhaavanis, sarees, jewellery, hairdos, pyjamas, kurthas and dhothies were parading the stage while receiving their prizes from tiny tots to teens. It was indeed a colourful extravaganza.

The Trio added that the Vizha had no sponsors as such, but they enjoyed doing it with dedication, commitment & self support, along with likeminded & service oriented parents, friends & well-wishers, who have joined them for the noble cause, in rendering physical & moral support & there by derived self satisfaction.

 Kum. Priyanga Tabu, presented the 108 Karnas as a maiden performance in the April month 87th Kala Poshakam concert.

The auditorium was overflowing with rasikas - children, parents, and general public numbering more than 600.
