Memorable Moments of 10th Year "Pooja Vidhanam" Workshop, 2013.

“The Mylapore Trio” S.Surendranath, S.Aparna, S.Amarnath of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation organized the 10th year “Pooja Vidhanam” a first of its kind innovative workshop for women - the know-how of Ganesha Chathurthi, Krishna Jayanthi and Varalakshmi Vritam on Friday 9th August, 2013, at Adyar, hosted by Foundation Member Mrs. Meenakshi Sundaram in her residence.

Since morning the ambience at the place wore a festive look. The Dias was traditionally & aesthetically decorated with maayilai, thoranam, vaazhaimaram, etc. The floor was decorated with maakolam & kaavi by the members of the foundation, which added flavor to the already divine ambience. In the evening the Three Deities along with a beautiful Andal doll were decorated and placed on the elevated platform, surrounded by gorgeous looking women. All the members and children including the Trio presented themselves in dazzling south Indian traditional attire with silk sarees & dhothis & traditional jewelry.

The workshop began, with the Trio explaining the purpose of the workshop, which they felt was very essential for the younger generation. According to them these poojas and the spiritual values, which they inherited from their foster parents, must be perpetuated to the children. Surendranath explained the significance and shared rare information about these poojas. Amarnath traced the history of these gods and these festivals. Aparna anchored the programme and made other arrangements. The Trio began with a lecture demonstration on – Alankaram, beautifying Amman Face with silver polish, making Thazhampoo Jadai, Cotton Vastram, & many more tips on Kolam, Decorations etc. The Rasikas were thrilled to watch this colourful extravaganza.

“Sanathana Dharma Samrakshani”- Smt. Prema Krishnamurthi gave her inputs explaining the significance of Pooja Dhravyam, Mantras, Naivedhyam, etc... Then Varalakshi Amman was brought in procession in a Traditional manner from the entrance to the medai by madisaar maamies.

Smt. C.R.Saraswathi, mellifluously rendered appropriate Pooja Songs & finally deepa aaraadhanai was performed for all the three Gods, ending up with a mangala aarathi.

At the end of the programme, Thamboolam & Prasadams including Sakarai Pongal, Sundal, Kozhukattai, Seedai, were distributed to all women along with glass bangles in auspicious colours on account of Aadi Pooram. Smt. Jayalakshmi (Retd. Prof. of Kalakshetra) graced the occasion. Incidentally she was born on Aadi Pooram, hence it was very apt for her to join the Pooja on her Star Birthday.

The workshop was well attended by 50 participants (young & old men and women) who were very enthusiastic in knowing more about our cultural roots. They felt that the workshop was very innovative & useful, a spiritual & cultural eye opener for them”.
