Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted
the 19th ‘SUMUKHAIVA SADHAS’ – A Virtual Cultural Meet during this
extraordinary pandemic situation and lockdown. It was a unique concept
and a different conclave involving professionals of different genre. A
platform was provided to a Speaker to talk on a subject of his/her choice
or profession or expertise and the only criteria are, the topic must be
correlated to culture and history. This was followed by an interesting
questionnaire session which leads to a good interaction. Every week
audience learn a new subject enabling themselves to become more
knowledge centric.

The 19th Session was conducted on Sunday, 8 th November, 2020 from
4.30pm to 6.30pm. The Programme began with the Prayer on the Trio's
Foster Parents Smt.Sumukhi and Shri.Rajasekharan and their Grand
Mother Smt. Nagammal, written and sung by Smt. Revathy Sankkaran.

The Speaker of the day was Dr. Vidya Sayinath Ph.D in Philosophy. She
is a Scholor, Speaker, Writer on Philosophy, Religion etc. She is also an
artist, painter, veena player, dancer and more than all, she is a
Mylaporean. Her topic was on “Contribution of Vedas for the
construction of a sucessful society”.

She opined that the varnashrama was based on profession earlier but
later became birth based. She said all the varnas are equal and cannot
be demeaned. she said every profession is important for the
development of the society. She also touched upon the 4 ashramas or
the stages of one’s life like Brahmacharya, Grihasta, Vanaprasta and
Sanyasa. She siad that it was well arranged and oraganised system of
social strata. She said that over the period of time everything was
misunderstood and misinterpreted by the society.

Her talk was very interesting and simple and was easily comprehensible
even to a layman. The audience were able to understand and wanted
more on such subjects in future.

Surendranath said that Sumukhi Amma and Rajasekharan Appa
inculcated lot of values by sending them to various religious and
spiritual classes. They taught them Philosophy and Bhakthi and brought
them in an atmosphere of secularism.

Amarnath referred the Vedic Society from the historical point of view. He
said that all these were not new to him but her presentation made it
interesting. He said the division of society was based on profession
during the Early Vedic period but got corrupted during the Later Vedic
Period. The same way the position of women was high earlier and later
dropped to the nadir. He said that since the Trio were brought by Amma
& Appa and Kalakshetra, they are purely secular.

Aparna said Amma and Appa had exposed them to all good things in life
in the best of everything. Sublime values were inculcated in them even
at a very tender age. People of all sects were raised by them and hence
there was no distinction among the members of the family. Literally
Birds of Same Feather Flocked Togather in the house.

Sugathan appreciated the speaker and said that she was a “down to
earth” person though she is multifacted. He said that her doctorate was
a comparitive study of Adi Shankara and Ramanuja and their
Philosophies. She writes many articles on religion and gives lectures on
Gita and other mundane topics.

As per the diktat of the Foundation, all the participants were in green &
Rose Attire.

The Programme ended with a happy note to meet again next week with a
different Speaker and a Topic.
