The Mylapore Trio, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted the Valediction of 16th “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha” on Saturday, 23rd June 2018 at TAG-Dakshinamurthi Auditorium (AC), P.S. Hr. Sec. School premises, Mylapore.
Ms.Sucharitha – (Lord Muruga of Thiruvilayadal Movie Fame) was the Guest of Honor. The famous song “Pazham Nee Appa” sung by Great K. B. Sundarambal was dedicated to her. Looking at the Divinity of the child as the Lord Himself, it seems K.B.S prostrated before Lord Muruga alias Child Sucharitha. That was the impact created by the movie in the minds of one and all.
Sucharitha got accquainted with “The Mylapore Trio” two decades back, when Trio visited her house as Judges of the Golu Contest organised by the Mylapore Times. She was a Prize Winner many times. Since its (Chithirai Kalai Vizha Prize Distribution Function) and associated with Tamils… they thought it would be very apt to invite “Muruga – The God of the Tamils” as Guest of Honor to inspire the Children and Parents. Ms. Sucharitha shared her experiences of her divine character acting as Lord Muruga when she was hardly seven years old. She praised “The Mylapore Trio” and Sugathan for their untiring efforts to promote Thamizh Culture and Tradition and to inculcate its essence to the next generation for most of whom Tamil is alien, though it is their Mother Tongue.
The Trio and Sugathan honoured her appropriately by presenting her a memorabalia with a spiritual and historical touch. Since both Trios and Sucharitha are fond of Dolls, Trios presented her with a 2ft. Muruga Doll and the Famous “Maangani” for which she was very much touched. The audience were spellbound to see her in front of them, since for many of them she was the Lord Himself in the Yesteryears.
“Sakalakala Valli” Smt. Revathy Sankkaran who is also a part of our Foundation, spoke about the different charecteristics of “Ainthinai” - the topic given for the Chithirai Competitions. She described the life and activities of the people of Kurinji, Mullai, Marudham, Neidhal and Paalai and also sang few folk songs relevant to the geographical divisions.
Earlier Amarnath welcomed the Guest of Honor, Parents and Children. Then he explained the historicity of the Sangam Age and dealt in detail the different aspects of the life of the ancient Tamils including Political, Social, Religious and Cultural matters.
Surendranath reminiscenced the Trio’s association with Sucharitha and Revathy Sankkaran and recalled many instances which they still relished. He shared his experiences as being a Judge to Sucharita’s house and their grand golu.
Sugathan shared a bit of his mind about the Chithirai competitions and how children were exposed to this Ainthinai which was something unheard off to them.
Finally the most awaited prize distribution session took place. Aparna took over the stage and read the list of the names of the participants and their Prizes and duly greeted the children. Around 120 children from Pre-Kg to Undergraduate level, who had participated in nearly 20 competitions categorized under Performing Arts, Fine Arts and Academic Arts - decked up in gorgeous Traditional Attire lined up and received their Certificates, Prizes and Medals from Sucharitha and Revathi Sankkaran. The specialty of Our Foundation is all the children both the Prize Winners and the non-prize winners are appropriately recognized on stage without any discrimination what so ever. There were around 300 and odd audience including the Children and Parents. It was a memorable evening of 2 hours duration, which was a red-letter day for many children and their parents to see their ward receiving Cups, Medals and Certificates - an Honour on Stage, and for us it was a great Children’s Festival.
