Cultural Programme at Sriperumbudur Organised by HR&CE Dept. TN

The Mylapore Trio and Sugathan conducted a Special Cultural Programme as an offering to Sri Ramanujar at Sriperumbudur on 22nd April, 2017, at the behest of Smt. Thirumagal ADC organized by the Dept. of HR&CE, Govt. of Tamilnadu. The Thematic Programme “Pallandu Pallandu Pallayirathandu” was an apt presentation – singing praises – “Long Live” to him. It was a conglomeration of Bharathanatyam and Semi Classical Music and Bhajans. It was performed on the inaugural day of the 10 day Udayavar Brahmotsavam and a 10 day Special Cultural Session to commemorate the 1000th Birth Anniversary of Sri Bhashyakarar, at the behest of Smt. Thirumagal, Additional Commissioner, HR&CE, Govt. of Tamilnadu. Interestingly it was also the 134th “Kala Poshakam” programme of the Foundation.

The programme began with Smt. Thirumagal thanking The Mylapore Trio & Sugathan and showering encomiums on them for their earnest efforts in magnificently displaying the Great Grand Golu on Sri Ramanujar at his birth place. She and other Govt. officials honoured them with huge temple garlands (Andal Maalais) and shawls printed with Ramanujar images. The Trio thanked the ADC for the divine opportunity given to them to contribute their might as an humble submission at the Lotus Feet of the Great Saint.

The Bharathanatyam was presented by Sugathan Mohandass for a Meera bhajan, Keerthanam on Parthassarathy and an Ashtapati. His performance was soaked in complete devotion and dedication, the audience were moved and taken away by his bhakthi rasa. His depiction of Draupati Vasthraakshepam, Gajendra Moksham were really awesome. His portrayal of Dasavataaram was very appropriate and even the layman could easily understand his Bhavas and Mudras. His attempt on Parthasarathy was apt and beautiful. On the whole he stole the show and created a niche in the minds of the HR&CE officials and the devotees.

The Carnatic Music and Bhajan genres were well presented and led by Karthik Veeramani and Shakambari. The opening song "Pallandu Pallandu Pallayiratandu” was very apt and appropriate for the occasion. The lead singers Karthik’s “Brindavaname Kunja Bhavaname" was his forte - a stunning hit and Shakambari’s “Om Namao Narayanaya” was amazing with her mellifluous voice. The children sang a variety of songs in different genres and various languages. The concluding song on Sri Ethirajar rendered by the lead singers along with Pradeebha, Geethika, Subhapradha and Charunivetha was enchanting and captivating - a real music to our ears. Shashank’s Mridangam added harmony to the concert.

At the end of the programme quite unexpectedly and surprisingly, Saint Ramanujar idol came in procession in the form of “Thamugantha Thirumeni” with full paraphernalia to our doorstep and gave divine Dharshanam, as if he heard our longing voices and yearnings to see him. Probably the King among the Vaishnavite saints was overwhelmed with the innocent and unadultrated Bhakthi of these children in their Dance and Music. All of us were immensely blessed and happy to have the Dharshanam of the him, on the first day of his Brahmotsavam during the Millennium Celebration of His Divine Birth.
