125th Month "Kala Poshakam" on Sunday, 10th July 2016
The “Mylapore Trio” and Sugathan Mohandass
of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation Celebrated the 14th
year “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha” – An Exclusive Children’s Tamizh
Festival in which 141 children from Pre-kg to College level with more
than 650 participations took part in 22 competitions and won prizes.
They came from Bangalore, Coimbatore and all parts of Chennai.
Competitions were conducted under Three Categories viz. Performing Arts,
Fine Arts and Academic Arts based on Tamizh Language, Culture and
Tradition. The Valedictory Function of “Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha”
along with 125th Month “Kala Poshakam” and “Kala Sadhas” was held on
Sunday, 10th July 2016, at Tag-P.S.Dakshinamurthi Auditorium (AC),
Mylapore, Chennai.
The Evening started with an Enthralling Bharathanatyam performance by Ms. Gayatri (Daughter & Disciple of Krishnaveni Lakshmanan)for 3 items “Naagendrahaaraya”, “Mayilvaahana Valli” & “Divyaprabhandham” were narrative & descriptive. This was followed by a Bharathanatyam performance by Shri. Sugathan Mohandass for 3 Keerthanams – “Nattanam Aadinaar”, “Shivagama Sundari” & “Varugalaamo Aiyya” as part of Koothambalam’s “Kala Sadhas”. This was a dedication to "Lord Chidambaranathar & Shivagama Sundari" in lieu of “Aani Thirumanjanam & Therottam” of Lord Nataraja on the previous day (9th July, 2016). Sugathan performed these 3 items in consonance with the Topic of 14th BCKV – “Thennattuthiruthalangal”.
The Guests of Honour Shri. Rangaraj (Journalist & Director Chennai-2000 Plus) & Ms. Chitra (Associate Editor, News Today) were overwhelmed and thrilled to be a part of this children’s festival and lauded the efforts of the Trio, Sugathan and the Foundation in perpetuating our Tradition & Culture, especially in Mylapore. They recalled their long cherished association with Smt. Sumukhi and Family and had enjoyed their hospitality many a time. They said they are great admirers of the Great Grand Golu put up by them at their house and in famous Temples in the recent years. They praised the sincere efforts of the Trio in doing multifarious cultural activities in its varied dimensions despite their professional pre-occupations and without sponsorship. They appreciated “Young Turk” Sugathan the foster son of the Trio and the Secretary of the Foundation for uniting himself with the Trio for the Cultural & Spiritual cause.
The Trio added that the Vizha had no sponsors as such, but they enjoyed doing it with dedication, commitment & self support, along with likeminded & service oriented parents, friends & well-wishers, who have joined them for the noble cause, in rendering physical & moral support & thereby derived self satisfaction.
