MOOTAMAADI NILAA CUTCHERY & NILAA CHORU (9th Year) at Adyar
To beat the summer heat, recently “The
Mylapore Trio” - Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna & Sugathan
(Kalakshetra Alumni and Cultural Ambassadors of Mylapore) and Members of
Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted a Very Cool
Special Music Concert – “MOTTAMAADI NILAA CUTCHERY” and “NILAA CHORU”-
Terrace Moonlight Concert (135th “Kala Poshakam” – Monthly Concert)
& Moonlight Dinner, for the Nineth consecutive year on Saturday,
13th May, 2017 at Adyar. The event was conducted and hosted by Smt.
Meenakshi Sundaram (Foundation Member) for the Third time (Hatrick) at
her Flat in Bhakthavathsalam Nagar, Adyar, Chennai.
Around 60 people young and old gathered to be a part of this Concert. At the stroke of 6.30pm, 15 children from 7 to 17 years gave a cultural feast. The children were the prize winners of various music competitions of the 15th Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha. The Songs had varied genres like Keerthanais, Varnams, Bhajans, Folk Music etc. and really Cutchery Kalai Kattiyathu. The Terrace with terracotta tiles was surrounded with concrete jungles. In this calm and collective atmosphere, the audience were breezed / fanned by nature’s pankas, sat spell bound for 2 hours inundated in the divine music.
Sevikku Alitha Virunthukku piragu Vayitrukkum Eeyyapattathu. At the end of the Cutchery, all had “Nilaa Choru” which included Puliyan Saadam, Saambar Saadam, Thayir Saadam, Urulai Kizhangu Curry, Mangaai Oorgaai, Urulaikizhangu Chips, Kesari, Gulab Jamun, Kaimurukku, Kaarasevai etc. All these Food items were prepared and served by the parents with enthusiasm.
The parents appreciated the efforts of “The Trio” in inculcating cultural values to children through their programs. The children opined that it was their maiden performance of such a kind and a new experience for them. They felt that it was indeed a very innovative concept and thanked the Foundation for reviving age-old customs that are becoming obsolete. Everybody presented themselves in Traditional attire.
The Foundation Members were overwhelmed with the love, care and the hospitality extended by the hosts Smt. Meenakshi Sundaram and Shri. Yogesh Sundaram. Despite being the owner of a Flat in a posse of apartments, they volunteered themselves to organise the function very receptively without an iota of hesitation and made all arrangements almost instantly in a colourful manner. Incidentally few Senior Foundation Members of yester years who had been with us right from the inception - Mrs. Usha Krishnamurthy, Ms. Sindhuja and Smt. Sampoornam were surprise guests to grace the occasion after many years. All of us felt that it was really a memorable evening with a new dimension altogether.
