Memorable Moments-20th Year “Bala Vidhwan Bavani” 1st Jan. 2022

The Mylapore Trio, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation organised the 20th year “BALA VIDHWAN BAVANI” from 6am to 8am on Saturday, 1st January 2022, by adhering to Covid norms with few members, only to continue the tradition and not to leave it on account of the pandemic situation. This was done to keep alive the custom and convention and to perpetuate and continue the great legacy. Only a handful of people numbering 20 went around the Mada Veedhis singing bhajans, namavalis and performing naatyam and kummi for 1 hour. Like all the past years Prasadham as Sakkarai Pongal and Venn Pongal was distributed to one and all after the spiritual walk.

This year’s Bavani gave us entirely a new experience without the participation of many children and parents who would gather in large numbers. Earlier we had a dharshan of Lord Kapaleeswarar and Goddess Karpagambal and prayed the welfare of the people and in saving them from the pandemic situation.

The Mylapore Trio started this “Bala Vidhwan Bavani” in the year 2003 on 1st January, as an innovative event 20 years back to inculcate spiritual and cultural values to children. Two decades back it was a very innovative thought to make children get up early morning and participate in the bhajan only to make them have a feel of Margazhi Bhakthi. Many children from different age groups along with their parents made it a custom to participate on 1st January every year. Many Music and Dance schools also participated. The Trio used to share stories, histories and legends of Mylapore to the large gathering. Apart from the Mylapore Trio, it is Smt. Sivabala who has been continuously taking part in this Bavani for the past 20 years.

This instance shows the impact of such an event that has got imbibed into every mind irrespective of age. The Trio’s effort to inculcate spiritual and philosophical values has ignited the innocent minds – a success indeed. Other children from the Foundation also rendered their part of songs and bhajans. It was very thrilling and exciting to see the evolution of the event and the people over these 2 decades. Finally history is scripted for 20 years.
