The Mylapore Trio and Sugathan of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan memorial Foundation conducted the 26th Sumukhaiva Sadhas on 10th January 2021 through Zoom Meet and it was the 1st Sadhas of this calendar year. “Sakala Kala Valli” Smt. Revathy Sankaran gave a talk on “Margazhi Thingalum Thai Oru Thingalum”. she shared her childhood experiences of Margazhi bhajans, bhakthi, chillness and prasadams given at the temple. She also talked about the significance of Thai month and spoke about Andal and her lyrics connecting both the sacred months.
Amarnath spoke on his childhood experiences during margazhi and Pongal. He remembered Suren’s beautiful and huge kolams drawn during Marazhi month in front of our house early morning, Boomboom maadus and decorated bulls during Maatu Pongal.
Surendranath explained the significance of Uttarayanam and Dakshinayanam. He also said that only Podi kolama and Maa Kolam is our Tamizh Culture and not Rangoli. He said that he was taught kolams by Sumukhi Amma who encouraged him to draw kolam on the street very early in the morning in the biting cold.
Aparna talked about neivedyams she prepared like Aarudra kali and kootu, Akkara vadisal. She was taught by Amma and Nagamma Paatti. She recollected how Sumukhi Amma used to take us to Temples during Vikunta Ekadasi and Aarudra Darshanam.
Sugathan described how Maargazhi and Thai are observed in Kerala. He talked about Thiruvathirai kali dance and how women used to decorate themselves with mai to their eyes during margazhi month ….which was just the opposite way here in Tamil Nadu, as per the customs elaborated by Andal in her Thirupaavai’.
After the session, there was a discussion on the topic and all the members shared their views and childhood experiences with others. All members were in Traditional Attire with purple and cream colour shades as per the Foundation custom.
