“The Mylapore Trio” Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted the 23rd ‘SUMUKHAIVA SADHAS’ – A Virtual Cultural Meet during this extraordinary pandemic situation and lockdown. It was a unique concept and a different conclave involving professionals of different genre. A platform was provided to a Speaker to talk on a subject of his/her choice or profession or expertise and the only criteria are, the topic must be correlated to culture and history. This was followed by an interesting questionnaire session which leads to good interaction. Every week audience learns a new subject enabling themselves to become more knowledge-centric.
The 23rd Session was conducted on Sunday, 6th December, 2020 from 4.30pm to 6.30pm. The Programme began with the Prayer on the Trio's Foster Parents Smt.Sumukhi and Shri.Rajasekharan and their Grand Mother Smt.Nagammal, written and sung by Smt.Revathy Sankkaran.
The Day’s Speaker was Smt.Usha Krishnamurthy who had retired from the Madras Telephones. She spoke on the Topic “Pazhamayai Kaappom”.
Earlier Surendranath mentioned how she got introduced to the Trio. She came to their house as Golu visitor and as Surendar colleague mother. Thus started her association with the Trio. She was the person who kindled them to start something new and different in the field of music and dance and indirectly mooted the idea of starting a Foundation. He said that the Dress Code of the Foundation was followed from Lady Sivaswami Girls School and Kalakshetra which was insisted upon by Smt.Usha.
Smt.Usha’s talk was very apt to the topic which she chose to speak. She narrated her life history at various stages. Starting from Andhra, Erode. Tanjore and finally settled at Madras. She explained the rich experiences she gained from different places and cultures she shared her school and college experiences and her dance class at Tanjore. She also spoke about the strict traditions and customs followed in her house during yesteryears.
She shared many Tamil proverbs and usages of past decades which were something new to this generation. She mentioned about how girls and women were protected during those days. She wanted the past to be preserved so that the future does not go hey wire.
The next stage of her talk was about her entry into our Foundation. She said that the Mylapore Trio’s Golu was amazing and out of the world for her when she saw it for the first time. She said it was a Houseful Thematic Golu and the explanation took 1 hour to cover the entire Golu. Each and every doll had a story behind and the explanation was amazing and mesmerising. She said that she was the person to moot the idea of Project which was later on developed as an organisation.
She, her daughter and daughter in law had rich experiences in the Foundation activities especially the First MBU, BCKV and Foundation Inauguration, Pooja Vidhanam, Bala Vidhwan Bavani etc. She shared some lighter moments and anecdotes that happened in the organisation during these events.
She had a word of praise for Nagammal Paati and showered encomiums on her and said that she was ever loving and caring towards one and all. To put it in a nutshell, her talk was very lively, informative and apt for the Title. Her application of the topic to her life history made it very appropriate and suitable. There was a very lively discussion which followed her talk and it continued for a long time.
Amarnath talked about her initiatives and the involvement of her family including her daughter Sindu and daughter in law Vidhya in the very early stages of the Foundation. He talked about her discipline and strictness towards the parents and children.
Aparna said that she was as strict in implementing the Traditional Dress Code among the Parents, Children and Visitors. She also opined that her family’s participation in the 1st MBU and 1st BCKV at RR Sabha. She talked about the happy and entertaining days they all enjoyed alike one family during these Foundation programmes.
Sugathan at the outset named Smt.Usha Krishnamurthy as “Mooladhaara Murthy” – because she was instrumental and kindled the wick by to do something for culture.
As per the diktat of the Foundation, all the participants were in Brown and Cream.
The Programme ended with a happy note to meet again next week with a different Speaker and a Topic.
