The “Mylapore Trio” – Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna, Secretary -
Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted
the 165th “Kala Poshakam” - Monthly Concerts on Sunday, 13th October, 2019 at
Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Mini Hall, Chennai. It is a Free Platform offered to
all Artists of Chennai and all over India.
The pleasant
evening started with a Musical Tsunami by the Historic Madras Youth Choir
founded by Late. Shri. M.B. Sreenivasan in 1971. The audiences were engulfed by
the melody of 30 Cuckoos and nightingales. They rendered multi-lingual songs of
various genres including some popular numbers of yester-years. Some famous
songs of Bharathiyar, Bharathidasan, Kalki and others were rendered in mono
voice. Surendar’s classmate from Kalakshetra BASS School Shri. Nagaraj was
instrumental in arranging this programme for the Foundation. He is a member of
the MYC and it was a dream come true to make him to sing in our programme and
this eventfully happened on 13th Oct. 2019. They sang songs based on Carnatic
based ragas exclusively for Sumukhi Foundation. As Suren said though most of
them were above 60yrs of the age their voices were not withered but still bold
and melodious. The choir music was a new experience altogether. "Sakala Kala Valli" Smt. Revathy Sankkaran praised the MYC for its excellent performance. She also reminiscenced her association with Late Shri. MB Srinivasan and the Choir Group. The group thanked “The Mylapore Trio” and
Sugathan for the opportunity given.
This was followed
by a mellifluous Keyboard Carnatic concert by three youngsters - Chi. Naveen
Srinivas, Chi. Ashish & Chi. Shivaganesh (Disciples of Shri. MS Martin) along with
Chi. Chandrasekhar on Mridangam, which enthralled the audience. They played
popular numbers in various languages and it was music to our ears.
