147th "Kala Poshakam" - Monthly Programme - Sunday, 22nd April, 2018.


The “Mylapore Trio” – Amarnath, Surendranath, Aparna, Secretary - Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation conducted the 147th “Kala Poshakam” - Monthly Concerts on Sunday, 22nd April, 2018 at Narada Gana Sabha, Mini Hall, Chennai. It is a Free Platform offered to all Artists of Chennai and all over India.

The First Slot of the evening was a Bharatanatyam performance by J.R. Arunima, an Alumnus of Kalakshetra & Disciple of Guru Shri. Jayakrishnan Ambadi, Chennai. Arunima performed for a Live Orchestra with young Artists of Kalakshetra. This was Arunima’s Maiden Solo Performance in Chennai. She presented a repertoire with new choreographic works of young Gurus and energetically performed Rukmini Devi’s Varnam.

A Very Special Music Concert was arranged by Sugathan – “Sopaana Sangeetham” by Mumbai G. Shilpa on Vocal and Mahesh Kumar Sukapuram on Edakka. Sopaana Sangeetham is a Temple Art Form of Kerala, which still followed in most of the Temples in Kerala as a Ritual practice. Shilpa rendered Jeyadeva’s Ashtapadi and Mahesh Kumar accompanied her with the “Keraleeya Taalam” pattern. Sugathan Mohandass gave a very intersting Lecture on the “Sopaana Sangeetham” and traced the History and the Significance of the Instrument Edakka. The Music was different to the Chennai Audience and unheard of. This was Mahesh Kumar’s Maiden Performance in Chennai and this was a new experience for Shilpa in singing Sopaana Sangeetham.

The Third was a Bharatanatyam recital by Nikhitha Manjunath from Bangalore, Disciple of Guru Shri. Sathyanarayana Raju. She presented her recital with a great enthusiasm and energy. Nikhitha followed her Guru’s footsteps and every dance items were remarkably presented. This was her Maiden Peformance in Chennai.

The Artists were presented with “Certificate of Appreciation” by the Trio and Sugathan.
