The Mylapore Trio and Sugathan
conducted the 14th year golu workshop “Navarathri Golu Paddhathi” at
their residence at Mandaveli on 18th September. About 25 students from
Lady Sivaswami Girls Hr. Sec. School, Mylapore attended the two-hour
lec-dem. It was for the first time that school children were exposed to
such a programme. Hitherto the workshop was conducted only for women of
the neighbourhood. The students were highly thrilled to see the golu and
learn the know-how of putting up a golu thematically and atheistically.
When the Trio approached Mrs. Ruby Putthotta – the Head Mistress of the
school, she readily agreed and sent the girls along with their tutor.
The workshop was a new exposure to the students of class 9 and 11 who
were really eager to learn our tradition, culture and history especially
the stories and dolls related to Mylapore. The students felt that it
was a different experience altogether, which was highly useful
culturally and academically.
The Mylapore Trio has a sentimental and emotional attachment to Lady Sivaswami Aiyar School, since their Foster Mother Smt. Sumukhi was the former A.H.M of that prestigious school. She and her sister worked there even during the time of Sir. Sivaswami Aiyar. Last year the Trio celebrated Smt. Sumukhi’s Birth Centenary in a grand fashion in that school.
