11th Anniversary & Commemoration of 8th Year "Kala Poshakam". Title “Veena Vaadhana Visharadha” to Saraswathi Ranganathan (USA)



Recently, Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation Celebrated its Eleventh Anniversary & the Commemoration of the Eighth Year “Kala Poshakam”, on Sunday, 16th February 2014, at Narada Gana Sabha (Mini Hall), Chennai. On this memorable occasion, the Mylapore Trio (S. Amarnath, S. Surendranath, S. Aparna - Kalakshetra Alumnae) & Members of the Foundation Conferred the Title “VEENA VAADHANA VISHARADHA” and presented Recognition Award to SARASWATHI RANGANATHAN – (Founder - Director Ensemble of Ragas School of Performing Arts, Chicago USA) for her Remarkable Talents in Veena rendition. The Award carried a specially designed Citation and a Gold Coated Copper Temple Kalasam - which is a symbol of spirituality and auspiciousness - Gopura Dharisanam Kodi Punnyam. She hails from an artistic family of musicians and dancers, and has been closely associated the Mylapore Trio - also performed in our “Kala Poshakam” programme last year.

Saraswathi graciously accepted the honour and thanked the Mylapore Trio for the affection showered on her by recognizing her musical talents. She also appreciated the earnest efforts of the Mylapore Trio and lauded their social and cultural service in preserving and perpetuating traditional values to the younger generation. According to the Trio it is the first time that such an award was instituted and conferred on an NRI for her amazing abilities in the divine instrument.

The day’s programme started with an auspicious beginning - Thyagaraja Aradhana, as Saraswathi played ‘Pancha Ratna Krutis’ and exhibited her versatility in performing different genres in Veena, which was really ‘Music to the Ears’. Shri. Patri Satish Kumar accompanied her on the Mridangam.

Also on this occasion specially designed Certificates were distributed to children who attended the 12th Year “Bala Vidhwan Bhavani”.

The Function was a memorable & a distinct experience to one and all…
