Report of 162nd "Kala Poshakam" - Monthly Program-Sunday, 28th July, 2019

The Mylapore Trio, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation Celebrated the 162nd Month “Kala Poshakam” Programme on Sunday, 28th July, 2019 at Narada Gana Sabha, Mini Hall. On this occasion Versatile Artist Chi. Sugathan Mohandass (Secretary - Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation and Kalakshetra alumnus) dedicated his “Natya Samarpanam” to his Guru Late. Smt. Thangamani Teacher of Kalakshetra Foundation, on her 5th Remembrance Day. His sister Swathy Mohan also performed Bharatanatyam along with him. Sugathan dedicated this for 3rd year consecutively.

The program began with a new Anthem Penned & Sung by Smt. Revathy Sankkaran in praise of Philanthropist Couple Late Smt. Sumukhi, Late Shri. Rajasekharan & Patron Late Smt. Nagammal.

The Bharatanatyam Performance triggered with a lively Alarippu. This was followed by a Padavarnam. Both Alarippu & Padavarnam Jathis were rendered in Late Guru. Smt. Thangamani Teacher’s voice in a recorded medium. The performance of the siblings engulfed the audience. They concluded their performance with a Thevaram by Thirunavukkarasar in praise of Lord Marundeeshwarar of Thiruvanmiyur and a Guru Mangalam penned by Smt. Revathy Sankkaran exclusively for this “Remembering Thangamani Teacher” program.

Their Bhaavam was amazing and Abhinayam was enthralling and Jathis were seamless. Their costume and jewelry were really gorgeous and exquisite specially designated to suit the magnificent Stage Décor. On the whole, the entire dance repertoire was spectacular, splendid and stunning. The Jam-Packed audience in the Halls was totally engrossed and enthralled in their Naatyam. At the end of the day, it was a very soul satisfying performance by Sugathan & Swathy and a historic conglomeration and reunion of Old and New Foundation Members, after a decade. A very memorable evening indeed.

Later the performance, Smt. Revathy Sankkaran talked about “Guru Bhakthi” in various aspects.

On this occasion 21 Children who were the Special Prize Winners of the 17th Year Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha were given away Talent, Proficiency and Multi-Talent Prizes. “Sakala Kala Valli” Smt. Revathi Sakkaran and Smt. Meenakshi Dhamodharan – the maternal grandmother of Sugathan who is an Octogenarian and a Mohiniyattam Artist distributed the prizes and certificates to the winners. All the members and children presented themselves in gorgeous Traditional Attire.
