150th "Kala Poshakam" - Monthly Program-Sunday, 15th July, 2018

The Mylapore Trio, Sugathan and Members of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation Celebrated the 150th Month “Kala Poshakam” Programme on 15th July, 2018 at Narada Gana Sabha, Mini Hall. On this occasion Versatile Artist Chi. Sugathan Mohandass (Secretary - Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation and Kalakshetra alumnus) dedicated his “Natya Samarpanam” to his Guru Late. Smt. Thangamani Teacher of Kalakshetra Foundation, on her 4th Remembrance Day.

He began his Bharatanatyam Repertoire with a lively Alarippu, continued by a beautiful Keerthanam composed by Shri. Papanasam Sivan in praise of Lord Kapaleeshwarar of Mylapore – “Kaana Kankodi Vendum”. This was followed by a Padavarnam and Meera Bhajan which engulfed the audience and he concluded with a Thillana.

His Bhaavam was amazing and Abhinayam was enthralling and Jathis were seamless. His costume and jewelry were really gorgeous and exquisite specially designated to suit the magnificent Stage Décor. On the whole his entire dance repertoire was spectacular, splendid and stunning. Sugathan was accompanied by Orchestra from Kalakshetra. The Jam-Packed audience in the Halls was totally engrossed and enthralled in his Naatyam. At the end of the day, it was a very soul satisfying performance by Sugathan and a historic conglomeration and reunion of Old and New Foundation Members, after a decade. A very memorable evening indeed. This was followed by an enchanting Mohiniyattam by Sugathan’s sister Kum. Swathi Mohan who has done her Masters in Mohiniyattam from Sree Sankaracharya University, Kalady.

The Guest of Honor Smt. Priya Subramayan from Australia - Daughter of Late. Thangamani Teacher was emotionally choked and moved by Sugathan’s Guru Bhakthi and wished him all success in his future endeavors. She praised the “Mylapore Trio” for dedicating themselves in spreading cultural values as “Real Alumuni” of Kalakshetra and also applauded the Trio and Sugathan’s efforts to provide a Free Platform for the unsung heroes and wished them all the best in serving the society as true descendents of Smt. Rukmini Devi and Kalakshetra.

Earlier Aparna welcomed the gathering and enlighetened the audience about the historic significance of the 150th Month “Kala Poshakam” - a Title - “Satya Kala Poshaka Sundaram” conferred on “The Mylapore Trio” by Smt. Anitha Guha of Bharathanjali for their cultural efforts in promoting Navarathri Golu world wide.

Amarnath said that as “Mylaporeans” they are proud to have given “FREE PLATFORM” in “Kala Poshakam” to innumerable artists to show case their talents across India and Abroad. Most of them had their Maiden Performance in the field of Classical Dance and Music, under the Banner of Sri Sumukhi Rajasekharan Memorial Foundation.

Surendranath traced the evolution of the “Kala Poshakam” Programme over the last 150 months and remembered the important dance and music events held during the last 12 years. He said since their foster parents were philonthropists of Mylapore decades back, the Trio is proud enough to conduct the “Kala Poshakam” Programme from their hard earned resourses in their own simple way.

On this day, “The Mylapore Trio” and Sugathan took immense pleasure in honouring Kum. A. Geethika for her commendable talents in the field of Fine Arts. Geethika was conferred the title “Kavin Kalai Vitthagi” for her expertise in various forms of Arts and Crafts. A Traditional and Spiritually oriented Award was given to her – A specially fabricated Trophy “Saraswathi Vigraham seated on a metal Lotus” was the Signature Award presented by the Foundation to honour the budding Artist. On this occasion 26 Children who were the Special Prize Winners of the 16th Year Balar Chithirai Kalai Vizha were given away Talent, Proficiency and Multi-Talent Prizes. All the members and children presented themselves in gorgeous Traditional Attire.
